Take away:
I enjoyed how we had to dress up like a fantasy character and use our questioning skills to try and figure who people were. I’ll definitely utilize this in my classroom, especially after reading a particular fantasy book. It would be a great response. @JohnArden
Take away: I loved how today we were able to look at educational books in a different light that simply thinking about textbooks. It’s so easy to fall into the lie that learning has to be from a published huge textbook. @JohnArden
Management: as high pressure the “everybody writes” papers were, I thought they were highly beneficial to check for understanding and then base your instruction on what still needed to be learned or what was already obtained. @JohnArden
Management: opening slip of paper we had to fill out after we discussed for a minute. A great way to 1. See who all was in class 2. Check student learning progression @JohnArden
Take away: poetry is so much fun and can be taught in a variety of ways. It is an excellent way of self expression that children will love exploring. @JohnArden
Management: during the poetry lesson today, as each student finished their poem the next person on deck to read would give them a compliment. This allowed for careful and smooth transitions. @JohnArden
Management: we were given the task to meet on our own time to discuss the lit circle books. Allowing room for personal growth and finding time in our schedules to accomplish a task. You also gave us a set date when that was required by. @JohnArden
Take away: comparing books to the movie is a beneficial way to understand more of the meaning behind the story. It causes readers and viewers to expand their ideas and thoughts and think critically and analyze the two. @JohnArden
Management: You could have had us sign up for groups on a sheet of paper or done it verbally but you created an organized google doc for us to create our groups. It allowed for student engagement and discernment. @JohnArden
Take away: critical pedagogy goes beyond thinking critically about books and situations. It allows students and peers to question and challenge domination. One should not simply conform because it’s easiest, we should teach our students to reflect, & evaluate. @JohnArden
Management: you gave us two options to do for the remainder of class; allowing us to manage our time, completing what we needed to get done. @JohnArden
Take away: no matter where we end up as educators, we need to include multicultural diversity in the curriculum. Although, keeping in mind 4 things; avoiding stereotypes, language consideration, the books perspective, and diversity and range. @JohnArden
Take Away: there is way more to teaching about other cultures than it seems. You must be culturally sensitive and truly give 100% effort while teaching on other contexts, trying not to cause a divide amongst cultures. @JohnArden
Management: You gave us playing cards (which you’ve done in the past) and placed us into our research groups based on the suite on the cards. A simple and easy way to group students. @JohnArden
