Tough time getting your kid into a snow suit this morning? Imagine the struggle, then, of kindergarten teachers everywhere. As a tribute, I present this video I shot of my son's class back in 2002.
What a beautiful fall day! We took our science lesson outside to observe the stunning leaves in our school yard, compared the different types of trees, then ended by doing some calming landscape drawing to record what we saw.
Today, students read “Shin-chi’s Canoe”. We learned how to use a Venn diagram, and made text to text connections. All 3 books read this week will be used again because the conversation and learning doesn’t stop this week! Tmw Ss will continue their learning for #OrangeShirtDay
Its #TruthAndReconciliation week. 1st we read the beautiful book “On the Trapline”. Then we brainstormed what we learned about Indigenous peoples from the book, and even learned some new words! Then we read “Shi-shi-etko” and made connections to the book. 1/2

“I know that in China people don’t vote for the person who is in charge.” My favourite part about teaching is that you never know where a lesson or an idea will take you, and watching the wondering and learning happen authentically!
Yesterday, Ss learned about Ancient Greek History. They learned that Ancient Greeks invented democracy. That lead to a discussion about what democracy is. After explaining that people who live in cities and countries can vote for who will make important decisions in the gov’t…/1
I immediately saw the wheels turning in their heads. The conversation and questions that followed amazed me: “well what if the person everyone voted for doesn’t do what they promised to do?” “What if that person starts doing bad things?”…/2
During our Dance period this afternoon, Ss 👀 a video of a popular Greek dance known as Sirtaki. We 🗣abt all the elements of dance we observed, like the slow and fast rhythms, and Ss enjoyed clapping along and trying to copy the steps!🇬🇷@TDSB_GHM @SamBSteele_TDSB
A centres-filled day consolidating our learning in math(geometry) and science(structures). Ss love “playing” to show what they know. Spin and stack was the class fave! Making the thinking and learning observable in an authentic way 🧠👀👂🏼
