@robertkaplinsky@MathforLove After seeing this tweet I bought the book for my 4yo niece. She got the book last night and today I got a text that she tried to break the pattern while in the bathroom
Students thinking through converting point-slope to slope-intercept thanks to thin slicing #thinkingclassroom#mtbos they even groaned when it was time to stop!
@RyanMath6284 I’m in a similar boat with two classes in particular…I’m hoping some intentional 1-1 convos with certain students can help change the overall tide of the class. If you figure out something else that helps, I’d love to hear it!
@MrsSheehanMath Have student arrange numbers 1-10 in a 4 by 3 rectangle so that the sum of all sides are the same. I used it with Alg1 and Precal students and it went well
@NicolasBourbak2 @CoachAnselmi23 @MarkAhrens@AllaBaxt@pgliljedahl @caitekirk I’ve used a normal eraser between periods and then whiteboard cleaner/towel at the end of the day and it’s working well so far
@AllaBaxt @CoachAnselmi23 @pgliljedahl @caitekirk @mendmymath Thrifty White Tile Board from Home Depot. It came in 4ft by 8ft boards but I was able to get them cut at the store to make them easier to transport
@sophgermain Pet Show and Tell. If a new student joins us online, my students introduce their pets. If it’s just the usual crew, we still set aside time to check in with all the animals at home.
@GotMathHelp Until this is a feature, I could send an example assignment that copies students work/answers over to a duplicated slide. You could then pace them just to the duplicated slides to see their work/comment but they couldn’t change their answers on the original slides.
A student walks in and immediately says to me, “I have a bone to pick with you. Thanks to you, I’m now addicted to SET! I can’t stop playing it” —I don’t remember who posted it, but thank you #mtbos for the idea of adding a topic of “math games/puzzles” in google classroom!!
@dbarnum11 @stoodle@Desmos I started giving them the option to type or sketch their work. The ability to type math inside text boxes has helped keep work neat/legible and I have students alternate between verbal description of steps and typing the “math” step. (This was with trig students though)
@GotMathHelp @Desmos You could keep inputs on slide 6-10 for corrections/have students explain their mistake, and you could leave the feedback on slides 6-10 too... 2/2
@GotMathHelp @Desmos What if you duplicate every question so if 1-5 are the quiz then slides 6-10 are the duplicated questions. When students quiz they have access to 1-5 & you can use the summary screen CL to carry their answers to slides 6-10, then release slides 6-10 to S to go over...1/
@GotMathHelp @AnkerMath@Desmos In the activity itself I’ll name each answer input1, mc1, or text1 depending on the type of answer and question#, then I put this as CL on a table at the last slide.
@GotMathHelp @AnkerMath@Desmos When I locked answers, I ran into the issue of S submitting b4 they were done with the problem/realized they forgot a negative etc so I’ve stopped locking. You could pull answers to a summary screen then snapshot the summary to make sure no changes were made? Easier cl too
