Because This Country Has Gone About Literacy Instruction Wrong for So Many Years, Only 34% of First Graders Can Clap Out the Syllables in “Hitler”

@heymrsbond I’m constantly hearing stories from my students about stuff happening on the bus… my kid will start pre-k next year and I can’t imagine putting him on a school bus yet. I love the idea but maybe I know too much about the reality.
@DoctorSam7@JanRich20028037@pvalleybooks I really appreciate the framing of how teachers use MSV. It’s a way to understand what readers are doing while they read.
@karenvaites@JennBinis Weird to think this as an “own” in the first place. That term, seat work, is one that could be replaced with lots of other terms. All Ts are familiar with the practice, but not necessarily the specific term. Plus most elem classrooms are flex seating now. So it’s just inaccurate!
@ImaginationSoup Omg yessss!! It’s intimidating to kids, but it’s also impractical to me! When I want to read a book aloud to the class, a 400 page book is going to take too long for a 5-6 week unit.
@JSerravallo Love this! “Leveled books” is a big one. Whenever I see people talking about how we need to stop using leveled books, I’m just like……. You want to stop using books????
