Dear Roomies & Zoomies, thank you for the elbow bumps, laughs and gray hairs. In whatever you do, I’ll always be one of your biggest fans! ❤️ Love, Ms. McGhee PS chicken wing chicken wing, hotdog and bologna, chicken and macaroni, chillin with my homies 🌈
just like that, final paper submitted, masters degree complete!!! Couldn’t have done it without the encouragement from my fellow Graduate degree seeking coworkers who were also up late finishing assignments 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 #cougarstrong @CSCougars (time to celebrate!)
Anyone who says this was a “lost school year” hasn’t been around a teacher the past 14 months. They’ve worked their tails off to make the impossible possible!! Much love to all the teachers grinding away every day! It hasn’t gone unnoticed!!#TeacherAppreciationWeek#FLHornets
“Ms. McGhee if you’re a teacher you don’t get paid. You should quit and work at the post office. You’ll get more money.” #CareerAdviceFromAKindergartener
“Hey buddy can you please put your mask over your nose?”
“No it stinks!!!!!!!”
“Ok can you wash it at home??”
This exact exchange has been happening for the past 5 days. 😰 #LuckilyIHaveNonSmellyDispoableMasks
Times may be tough and uncertain but there’s just something about Kindergarten writing progress that puts a smile on my face (esp when one friend successfully sounded out the word dust on his own 🤩)
“Ms. McGhee I’m going to play an April fools prank on you. When you call my name for attendance I’m going to say Not Here! but I’m actually here do you get the joke? I’m not absent!”
Way to go, Miss Lowry! Check out those jeeps by our amazing Petersburg resident @TeachRTR@vcusoe. She also has been selected by faculty as a @TeachersPromise
As I finalize my taxes, I am reminded of a few things:
- Teachers can only write off $250 for school supplies
- The average teacher spends well over $750 on school supplies, especially this year
- Teachers spend more on school supplies than Trump paid in taxes
This morning we were discussing how our hybrid classroom would work. One student raised her hand and asked, “Ms. McGhee, if there’s kids on the computer and kids in the classroom how will you teach all of us?! There’s only one of you!!!”
Student: “can we go into a breakout room? I need to show you something!!”
*in breakout room*
Student: “I wrote you a note it says “I love Ms. McGhee she is always on my heart” and I drew a heart!”
Me: 🥺
GOOD NEWS: Because of our strong fiscal management, and Virginians working so hard to mitigate #COVID19, we are projecting an additional $700 million in revenues over the current budget cycle—that means a permanent raise for teachers and additional relief for Virginia families.
