Ryan Coogler has found so much success by pairing up with college friends like Ludwig Göransson. Good reminder that networking, especially in creative industries, isn’t always about climbing the ladder. You’ve got to network horizontally as well.
underground music is very much alive and thriving but you have to actually go looking for it. it is not going to come to you through the radio or the charts.
I know it’s popular to laugh and make jokes when it comes to our legends/veterans but the overlooking and erasure of Ginuwine’s legacy is downright crazy to me.
His four platinum album run shouldn’t be ignored or taken lightly. At one point, it was Ginuwine and Usher as direct “competition”.
Times change, sounds change, and everyone doesn’t cross over to extend their run at the top of the pop charts.
But, in terms of singer-dancers who stepped on the scene to carry on the Bobby Brown brand of Bad Boy R&B/Pop, Gin is always in the conversation.
It would be nice for him to have a 30th anniversary tour to celebrate his debut album this year.
Music discovery is supposed to be hard.
• You're supposed to hunt through vinyl crates to find great records.
• Read music blogs until something hits you.
• Read the liner notes to find new artists.
• Go to gigs and watch the opener you've never heard of.
That's where the magic is. The reward of new music feels better when you work to find it.
