A9: A champion, everyone seems to be saying that regardless of their politics. She made decisions that influenced how we manage our society. She was political, and teachers should follow her lead! #theeducatorsroom@ms_scott_bcps@ms_schaake16
@Tjac512@mistersutton1@EducatorsRoom@KristiRizzo@DMaxMJ@palan57 โMeโ work is critical to social justice education. I need to do the hard work of introspection, unlearning, and reflection to teach well. โWeโ work is then the changes in our buildings and systems. It takes both.
@mistersutton1 @BradLeeMoses1 @MrBenjesPHS Teaching is political. This is an incendiary thing to say in some circles, but if calling out bigotry, racism, sexism, hate, and disinformation is political, then Iโm in.
A2: Great question all teachers are confronting today. It's a political choice to condemn hateful rhetoric. It just shouldn't be controversial or partisan. #theeducatorsroom@ms_schaake16 @BradLeeMoses1 @MrBenjesPHS
@EducatorsRoom A2: It is political to condemn hateful rhetoric. Teachers aren't the problem because they manage classrooms that don't tolerate bigotry. The problem is our politics not our teachers #theeducatorsroom@ms_schaake16@palan57@DMaxMJ
I do see some pretty closed minds during this political season. But, I also know that the traditionally hierarchical position of teacher can easily dissuade students from sharing their voice. Thatโs my work: modeling open minded, respectful dialogue.
A2: Classroom rule is that everyone is treated with respect, and all should feel safe in that space. Expression of hate breaks those rules, but telling someone they can't express their hate doesn't.
@DMaxMJ@mistersutton1 True, there are real systemic issues that need to be addressed, by all leaders, regardless of party. But the comparison stops there for me. (Apples and the proverbial oranges)
A3: Absolutely. But, we need to distinguish between managing a community and partisanship. Partisanship is a part of politics, but at its core, it does not have to be that way! #theeducatorsroom@palan57@ms_schaake16
A1: 100% itโs frightening how empathy is politicized. The candidate in the red tie tonight actively harms, degrades, and disenfranchises large swaths of our country. #makeempathygreatagain
A1: I love the idea of empathy. But, empathy is a behavior that has become politicized. How can a teacher not be seen as political when they preach that behavior? #theeducatorsroom@palan57@JoeBiden@DMaxMJ
