Yes, some things are inevitably “checks in boxes,” but let’s never spend so much time checking boxes that we run out of time to check on people. Priorities.
Today I realized I measure “years” from Septembers to Junes. I also don’t recall how old I was when things happened, but I can tell you what grade I was in. January 1st really doesn’t mean much to me; the first day of school is my New Year.
Spent my Saturday with some very dedicated faculty and staff members who thought it a worthwhile investment to add some character and pride to our halls. 🎨💛 I heard one student say “it feels like a new school!” #AnchorsUp ❤️💛⚓️
Completing an Hour of Code as we get ready for break! The students had fun problem solving and helping each other find errors in the code they wrote. #HourOfCode#AnchorsUp

Y'all... teaching is hard. I love this job, but it is... hard. And it is sometimes overwhelming how many things I NEED to be doing better. Sending love to all the teachers out there fighting the good fight.

Students (people) who are accustomed to being abandoned emotionally and physically need constant reassurance that you, too, will not leave or give up on them. This comes across in various ways, and most of them will frustrate you. Don’t leave them.
A zip code does not define a child. Every young person can achieve greatness through love, support, encouragement, and the Henrico Learner Profile. We are so fortunate as educators, to be in a profession where we can provide all of the above to our students. @lrdunavant
