"Systems and routines are key to successful schools and they have to be followed consistently by ALL."
Yes, yes, yes!
So frustrating when you try so hard to hold the line and others do not. Undermines everything. Consistency and fairness is the least the students deserve.
In the past, Iβve been told to
βF**k offβ for upholding a school mobile policy
Iβve been barged (twice) by the same student for upholding a school uniform policy.
I was told by a senior leader I was more consistent in applying the school policy compared to them.
Systems and routines are key to successful schools and they have to be followed consistently by ALL.
Letting a student off or turning the other way can have a big impact on other staff.
Visible leadership is also crucial to support the systems and routines.
Very interesting piece about the use of videos. Too often used when teacher explanation would be better.
I wonder how often they are used due to a gap in teacher knowledge or confidence, acting as a sticking plaster that actually robs the teacher of a development opportunity?

Pupils with high absence rates are likely to have lower P8 scores.
And disadvantaged pupils are more likely to have high absence rates than others.
Not only that, disadvantaged pupils have worse outcomes than others with similar absence rates.
