In our effort to relieve port congestion, MPL today carried out a trial berthing of a container vessel at our Thilafushi berth.
The MSS Galena berthed successfully, and empty containers are now being loaded.
This will ease congestion and improve vessel turnaround times now, bridging the gap until our new Thilafushi container port comes online in November 2027.
A special thank you to #TeamMPL, whose dedication and hard work made this possible, and to all stakeholders for their valued support and contribution.
We are also working diligently on several other interim measures to ease congestion. Stay tuned.

A new startup oil company claiming to be a worldwide fuel trader from Maldives! Lot of reputable tourism establishments fell for their price scam. Now these establishment are left to search for suppliers when said company can't deliver.
@DemocratsMDV Environment protection is important and green agenda is well and fine. But what maldives needs right now is policies and investments to enhance energy security.
@mohamedfiraq Because Macl maintains exorbitant margins. It’s as if they are running a fuel business rather than an airport. If you look at their financials you can see revenue and profit from fuel sales.
@baippolhu I can’t help but think the biggest limitation of options in this regard is political parties. In terms of candidates as well as solutions. Michael Porter wrote about this.
There’s so much potential for bunkering in Maldives. We can operate on par with Colombo, if required investments can be brought in and necessary legal frameworks are implemented.
Upon the commencement of the bunkering operation, certain individuals jested and ridiculed, convinced of its inevitable failure in the Maldives. I believe it is in progress, and it is one of the recorded methods through which we can generate foreign currency.
@strang3path@p3st You give Iran too much credit. Iran can’t block the Hormuz. And they still haven’t. You are right that they depend on the Hormuz.
The issue this time is about insurance. What’s causing the disruption is insurance policies cancelled by western companies.
Times like this, we need to be practical and get our priorities in order to ensure Energy security for Maldives. Renewables can’t keep up with energy demand.
Germany Energy Minister Katherina Reiche:
The phase-out of nuclear power was a huge mistake — a huge mistake.
We now miss that energy.
So, the only way to secure supply is gas.
Philippines Declares Emergency as Energy Supplies Run Short
The Philippines declared a national energy emergency as the conflict in the Middle East threatens fuel supplies and the country’s economy.
There is an “imminent danger of a critically low energy supply,” Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in an executive order late Tuesday. “Urgent measures are necessary” to ensure the stability of energy supplies, continuity of economic activity and the delivery of essential services, he said.
