I am excited to share this with you all! I hope it is helpful and I wish you so much joy in your play-based journey! 💕 #winnipegsd#playbasedlearning
"Phonics is killing a love of reading!"
Try telling that to this nearly six year old who just realised that he could read his big sister's Harry Potter book!
He's ABSOLUTELY BUZZING and so proud of himself.
Explicit instruction and lots of reading practise opens that 'door'!
“What were recommending is that every child be screened so that kids are detected and found early on in kindergarten or grade one or grade two, and that children who are struggling to read have immediately access to interventions that are appropriate” 👏🏻

“Ensuring every student in Manitoba learns to read will require a provincial plan, not just for screening, but also to provide clear training for teachers with respect to the screening and the instruction needed for children, youth and adults.” 🇨🇦 #mbed
@rastokke@WabKinew @nello4transcona As a teacher, this is incredibly concerning. I’m curious to know why this decision was made. We need to uphold our education system to the highest standard- with evidence based teaching instruction from qualified educators.
Just a friendly reminder that EVERY child has the human right to learn to read at school! Structured literacy is necessary to create equity for ALL children! No child should have to pay for a private tutor to access the reading instruction they need. #SoR#UFLI#rightToRead
Scott Hill and Evergreen School Division team talking about changes and student progress. No more Reading Recovery in ESD. What an awesome school district! @carriewoodwpg
We can’t grow tired of advocating 4 kids or spreading our knowledge around SOR/evidenced based instruction.
Some will plow, some plant, some will water, some will tend, & some will get 2 enjoy the benefits of all of those who came B4 them.We all have a roll to play.#kidsfirst
@ESCsalle205@MTSLD2021 The sessions were fantastic. You might be surprised how much pushback some teachers face when they want to incorporate science of reading. I’m so lucky my admin is supportive. But many people in the division are not. I stand firm in my practice! The day was so refreshing.
What a fantastic day. Thank you so much @MTSLD2021 ! Reading and writing are not natural- the facts and multidisciplinary research PROVES that students require explicit , structured literacy! This is not opinion, but facts. Our kids deserve best practice!
This visual is so impactful and validating for the decisions my teaching team and I have been making. The science of reading journey has been game changing. When you know better, you do better. @MTSLD2021
BARTER & TRADE! 🫱🏼🫲🏾
During today’s Treaty studies, students in room 9 learned about bartering and trading! We then put our learning to practice at the ROOM 9 TRADE POST!
Each student received a barter bag. They had to communicate with their classmates to seal some fair deals! 🫱🏼🫲🏾
