Parents: Schools shouldnโt teach that. Weโre the parents. Weโll handle it.
Schools: If you were, in fact, handling it, thereโs be no need for this conversation but here we are
It pains me when I think about the amount of high school students who do not enjoy coming to school.
How often do we meet a freshman who hates school and watch as they graduate hating school? Thatโs a problem.
What advice do people have to help our learners enjoy HS more?
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU My concern is what I do when my students leave school and go home to an environment with inadequate tech and wifi resources. I don't want my students falling behind because they couldn't access the info due to lack of laptops or a wifi outage. (1/2)
is used to allow students to apply what they have learned in collaboration with their peers, students feel encouraged to communicate and inquire while also staying on track in their learning (p 145). (2/2) @tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker
BLiA makes it clear how a flipped classroom is beneficial to students. Considering how some students may not be able to have their parents' help them with applying information, those students will struggle in the classroom as well. When the class time (1/2)
Love this point made in BLiA - lower stakes and more frequent assessment of learning can help in skill development. Through the use of formative assessments, students and teachers alike can benefit with it serving as an anchor! @tsschmidty@Catlin_Tucker
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU@Catlin_Tucker One challenge is that students and teachers loose the personal face-to-face interaction traditional teaching is based on. While these new tech programs and tools can be personalized, students still lack in that face-to-face communication. (1/2)
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU@Catlin_Tucker Plus, integrating blended learning in a classroom is much easier than integrating it at home of the student. Not every student has the same access to tech at home like they do at school. Even then, students can still fall behind due to their circumstances.

100% agree! Unfortunately, school doesn't always allow for a more engaging and personal environment. Teachers are limited to following standards like curriculum and exams. @tsschmidty@ajjuliani#PBL#designthinking#IES451Chat
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU Innovation and creativity go hand in hand. When lessons or projects are innovative, they allow for students to be creative. It's a difficult time for them right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have a class that allows for that.. (1/2)
@tsschmidty@ChapmanU#IES451Chat technology offers accessibility to students who struggle in a standard classroom environment, especially in one that does not engage with its students. it provides an alternative outlet for teaching and learning lessons for SpEd classes
@tsschmidty @Flipgrid @ChapmanU @Flipgrid allows for ELs to playback their recordings and hear what they sound like. If they're unsatisfied, they can try again. Giving and receiving feedback to peers helps them improve at communicating - an important skill! #IES451chat#flipgrid4ELs
