Come and join us for A-Fest 2025. A day to celebrate autism and autistic individuals, hear lived experiences, engage with research and share effective practice.
We're looking for autism researchers to present at our internal A-Fest on 24th February 2025. We want to know what the research tells us & how it can change our practice to best meet the needs of our young people. Please get in touch if you can help or send us a recommendation.
Our whole education system needs urgent transformation - its pedagogy, curriculum and its method of student assessment - in order to respond to what we now know about childhood & adolescent brain development and neuro-diversity. Only this will make it fit for its purpose.
You can often spot dyslexics in the workplace (and in the classroom) by their strengths and challenges.
We often score very high in some things ⬆️ (often in the top percentile) and very low in others ⬇️ (often in the bottom percentile).
This is known as a 'spiky profile'. 📈
We don't want our students to behave well in school because they are afraid of punishments.
We want to empower them to behave well and show respect and kindness because they feel and understand the intrinsic value of doing so.
If you teach English and have not already seen this, you may want to take a look. It raises key ideas about the teaching writing, how talk can contribute (Oracy), the teaching of sentences and more. https://t.co/Z5oW9kxsUL
Someone said to me today, if a child was upset whilst at school about going home to their parents at the end of the school day..there would be (understandably) a lot of concern from school.
YET when their child is anxious about going TO school..no one is listening.
Time for my annual tweet to remind fellow English teachers that I have a host of fully resourced KS4 schemes available for free on https://t.co/GkdDpThlED, and loads for KS3 available on request. If I can save anyone any precious remaining summer hol time, I would be very happy!
Here are more resources I’ve been working on over the summer. A set of lessons on English Language, Paper 1. As always, help yourselves and use/chuck/change as you see fit! @Team_English1
