Huge congratulations to Holly (4L) and her Geography teacher, Ms Doyle, on her second place finish in the EPA's The Story of Your Stuff competition. Holly's video about the environmental impact of pens placed second out of over 200 entries. Well done! @EPAIreland#TSOYS
5th Yr students enjoyed an afternoon of book speed dating organised by the English Dept. Students discussed their favourite books and noted down recommendations from other students. Hopefully everyone discovered a new title to be added to their TBR (To Be Read) pile!
@mrsheywood84@__codexterous If anyone has that word they cross it out BUT students get to challenge if they cannot see the link. If the chain is broken that student must cross out 5 words. By the end of the game the student with the most words remaining wins! A great way for them to make connections😀
Today we played The Game of Crossing Out (@__codexterous). Task: write down as many words as possible to do with secondary economic activities. Positive feedback with the students having lots of fun and wanting to do this in the future with other topics. #retrieval#jcgeog 🌍🏭
@mrsheywood84@__codexterous After writing down as many words as they can about the given topic I explained that we would start a chain of keywords. X says a word and if anyone has that word they cross it out X nominates another student and now they have to say a word that links to the first word.
Fantastic Folding Frenzy notes created by my 2nd year students in preparation for their November assessments on the topic of Rivers. Loving the creativity and pride they have shown in creating these revision tools. #jcgeog#activerevision 🌍🏞 @FoxrockLoreto
It will be interesting to see what daylight tomorrow brings as we assess the scale of this eruption at La Palma.
But, right now, in the darkness this looks decidedly scary...
Thank you, @lcgeography, for answering my questions while I was working on this diagram. You are a true gent and a fountain of tomographic knowledge. Also, thank you @ThatBenRanson and @geotayler for your inspiration. #Geographyteachers, please do share you feedback + or -
Okay—an eruption has begun at La Palma, the most northwesterly island in the Canary Island archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. It was announced (somewhat amusingly) in All Caps by @involcan just moments ago.
So: should we be worried? A thread, by me.

"The goal of teaching should not be to help the students learn how to memorize and spit out information under academic pressure.
The purpose of teaching is to inspire the desire for learning in them and make them able to think, understand, and question."

Check out the amazing jet black volcanic sands in Iceland with yellow river stained by the dissolved volcanic minerals and sediments. It might not be the warmest beach but certainly one of the most beautiful #geography#geographyteacher#Iceland#volcano#edutwitter
