The name of the game the first week of school is building relationships. That said, something new I’m doing is having students create community expectations. I like the way this kid thinks 😂 #firstdayofschool#8thgrade
Today’s Cooking with STEAM adventure: raising agents! Students learned about the importance of raising agents, like baking powder, and controls/variables in the most delicious way possible 🧁
@VictoriaAveyard My students LOVE your books! One girl read it, LOVED IT, then basically forced her whole friend group to read it,and now I can’t keep the book on the shelf! Thank you for your writing and sharing your stories with teenagers 🙂
Hero’s Journey board games are in full swing! Can’t wait to have students play on Wednesday 🥳 Here’s to trying new things in May with 8th graders in a pandemic!

@poetpedagogue I end my week by sending home 5 positive emails to families. I think about all the good things kids did that week and put them in an email home. I ALWAYS include the Ss on the email too. don’t always get a response, but it makes me feel better about the week.
Today’s the day! You can find the young readers’ edition and paperback edition of Becoming wherever books are sold. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to widen our community, and I'm especially excited for young people to read along as they begin their journeys of becoming.
Need recommendations for engaging picture books and short stories for a hero’s journey unit in 8th ELA. Students selected book club hero novels, but looking for modern and BIOPIC shared class texts (not Greek mythology) #kidlit#picturebooks@ILAToday@ncte@ALA_Booklist
