@Enceladosaurus @Paladin1969 I could literally critically analyze Mass Effect for hours nonstop π There's just so much to discuss, and I love dissecting why art makes me feel the way it does -- the good and the bad.
@Enceladosaurus @Paladin1969 Bioware was absolutely ahead of the curve in a lot of ways (basically the only company producing AAA titles that included queer relationships *at all*), but they definitely still suffer from a lot of the same problems that were ubiquitous in media at the time.
@Enceladosaurus @Paladin1969 PLUS the justification falls apart if you are playing anything but straight cis male Shep! You can kinda make it work for bi/wlw femshep, but their attractiveness is still very much presented via the stereotypical male gaze & so it doesn't feel authentic.
@Paladin1969 @Enceladosaurus critically examining the creative choices that were made and the impacts they have on the stories the game is trying to tell. 2/2
@Paladin1969 @Enceladosaurus I *love* Mass Effect, but these dialogue snippets are more of a post-hoc justification than good universe-building.
The Asari are sexy space ladies because the creators wanted sexy space ladies in the game. That's not *bad* per se, but it is worth 1/2
Fail "Language Arts?"
Classical Education, that's how. It doesn't measure a student's ability to learn or teach them TO LEARN. It teaches students to learn LIKE WHITE PEOPLE LEARN who have already been deemed smart because they know white things
Or as the Tampa Bay times says:
@IBecomeOppen @ZombaeKillz Lots, way more than will fit in a tweet π Or even a tweet thread
This one's a good start, imo,

As well as its follow-up, which throws some serious academic shade:

@LuckyGrim@SharonRoseCos The only con I've seen pull it off is MAGFest, because they integrated the COVID policy from the very beginning and planned around it, and communicated their policies clearly & consistently leading up to, at, & after the event.
@silhouettecos@SharonRoseCos@Katsucon Yeah, I also chose not to go this year because I figured this might happen. π₯² Katsu just doesn't have the staff + community culture needed to pull off a successful masking policy.
Disappointed, but not surprised. I think I'm done with Katsu for good π
