@LVCenterEdX@jlevine80 @AshleyLVUSD Hi this is Jeannie Gianni from LCMS and I hope to start the school year creating a culture where the students feel in charge of their learning.
@LVCenterEdX A5: If they use real world applications then the graded assignments show how much the student can learn content while keeping it to the world
@LVCenterEdX A4: For some parents, I think it is a way to assure themselves of their child's abilities. Admin can be to look how teachers are progressing towards the standards and a lot of students look at grades to go ono the trips.
@LVCenterEdX#ShiftThis A3: I have completing changed my thoughts on extra credit and how it affects students' perspective on learning. Behavior and participation should be a citizenship grade not an actual grade
@LVCenterEdX#ShiftThis Q2: I had this issue before. A parent cried during a parent meeting because I didn't assign reading, so the child wasn't reading. I'm hoping that establishing for the first day that grades are not everything but mastery is that I can change parent/students' perspective
@LVCenterEdX#ShiftThis A1: I love the menu choice. I need my students to learn grammar, spelling, vocabulary etc but I can have them choose how to work on it. Maybe, create tweets, snaps or posts. Have students post if a coach or their parent used a vocab word, etc.
@LVCenterEdX Great question I think meaningful feedback means specific to the student. What did they do well on with a specific assignment and what they specifically need to work on with supports and examples.
Dr. Charles A. Nelson of @harvardmed answers your questions on how separation is harmful to a child’s developing #brain. He and his colleagues have found changes in the brains of abandoned children that can be permanent. https://t.co/olRJq85A1i
@LVCenterEdX@jlevine80 @AshleyLVUSD #LVChat#ShiftThis A5: I like the idea of having students solve a mystery. One joy of language arts is the incorporation of other subjects. I could have students research, analyze and solve a real life mystery that relates to another subject matter that they love with evidence.
