In this story:

Sean Miller says Longhorns will be en route to New York when the Rockets and Spurs play at Moody Center on Friday night. Miller’s team may still meet with Houston and/or San Antonio on Thursday or early Friday.

New @statesman:

The 2026-27 NBA season starts, well, right now. Texas head coach Sean Miller touted the Longhorns’ expansive NBA reach on Monday, reveling in the 19 active NBA players who are either Texas alums or former Miller pupils.

“That’s our NBA fraternity.”

Texas’ offense is in free fall, and the numbers paint a disastrous picture.

I joined @LockedOnHorns to examine what’s not working and what could lie ahead with six games remaining (hope I didn’t depress @BradKellner_ too much).

That was quite the confident and defiant Arch Manning at the podium today, btw.

If Texas runs the table and reaches the Playoff, this presser will be one to remember.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

I asked Steve Sarkisian how much autonomy he likes to give Arch Manning at the line of scrimmage.

Sarkisian: “We're not a huge just put it all on the quarterback to audible [team].”

“We do change protections, and I think [Manning] manages those things well. When we have run-run checks and things of that nature, run-pass checks. I think those things are pretty defined. He does a good job with that.”

[Tyler Horka @tbhorka]

I go back to this response from Arch Manning often. He laughed off the idea of making pre-snap adjustments from what Steve Sarkisian calls. There aren’t enough checks, hot routes and blitz beaters in the Texas offense and it’s sinking the Longhorns. Sark has to realize this.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Arch Manning confirms his coach’s comments:

“It's hard to not have a chip on my shoulder right now, I'll tell you that.”

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Steve Sarkisian on Arch Manning’s mood in Texas’ team facility this morning.

“He had a chip on his shoulder. I liked that.”

Longhorns will play on Halloween night against Mississippi State. 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Steve Sarkisian on Arch Manning’s mood in Texas’ team facility this morning.

“He had a chip on his shoulder. I liked that.”

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

This is 🎯 from Steve Sarkisian:

“We haven't hurt the blitz enough. We haven't discouraged the blitz enough.”

Says they can do things better schematically against blitzers, says individuals need to block better against blitzing.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Sarkisian said there won’t be an uptick in first-team reps for Lacey during practice this week.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Steve Sarkisian on Arch Manning: “

“He’s our starter, but I need to see a better version of him.”

Says K.J. Lacey receives first-team reps in practice each week.

[Pete Thamel @PeteThamel]

Sources: Texas is expected to give an up-tick in first-team quarterback reps to redshirt freshman KJ Lacey Jr. this week in practice. Arch Manning still projects as the Texas starter. The uptick in Lacey’s reps is a signal that Texas could replace Manning if he continues to struggle.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Colin Simmons is expected to miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain, per @AnwarRichardson. Steve Sarkisian declined to comment on Simmons’ status, said to check the injury report Wednesday for our first update.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Sean Miller says he almost committed to Providence because of Rick Pitino.

Miller says he was scared off by Pitino’s practice schedule. Was 2, maybe 3 Saturday practices, another practice Sunday. Adds he felt bad Billy Donovan had to shepherd him around for campus visit after.

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Sean Miller with a gem here:

“Playing against St. John’s is an athletic crucial.”

[Michael Shapiro @mshap2]

Sean Miller is eager for Texas to play Sunday’s open scrimmage against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden.

“Great, great test for us.”
