BREAKING: YEMEN OFFICIAL STATEMENT

“The National Human Rights Authority strongly condemned the airstrikes carried out by what it described as the Saudi aggression, which targeted the Port of Al Hudaydah and civilian facilities on Kamaran Island.

In a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Authority said that targeting civilian objects constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly Article 52 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits attacks on objects that are not military objectives.

The statement said that the targeting of the Port of Al Hudaydah and civilian facilities on Kamaran Island is a continuation of what it described as systematic attacks on Yemen's vital infrastructure and public service facilities, directly affecting citizens' fundamental rights to access essential services.

The statement held the Saudi government fully legally responsible for the humanitarian and economic consequences resulting from these attacks, as well as for the broader violations allegedly committed during twelve years of the conflict. It cited attacks on hospitals, schools, roads, airports, ports, electricity stations, and water facilities, which it said caused extensive damage to the civilian infrastructure essential to people's lives.

The Authority called for the establishment of an independent and transparent international commission of inquiry to investigate all attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities in Yemen and to hold those responsible accountable under international law.

It also called on the international community, the United Nations Security Council, and human rights bodies to fulfil their responsibilities by stopping these violations, ensuring that perpetrators do not enjoy impunity, and ending what it described as double standards in the application of human rights principles.

The National Human Rights Authority appealed to international, regional, and human rights organisations to condemn the targeting of civilian facilities, press for an end to the attacks, and provide the assistance necessary to secure justice for victims and ensure appropriate reparations.

The statement further affirmed that crimes committed against civilians and civilian facilities are not subject to any statute of limitations and that the Authority will continue documenting all violations and pursuing those responsible before all relevant legal and international forums in pursuit of justice and accountability.”
