Broadview published this interesting article by Chief Taynar Simpson. we wanted to bring to your attention:
Title: Rice Lake granted legal rights under First Nation law
The article explains that Alderville First Nation has formally recognized Rice Lake (Pemadeshkodeyong) as a legal rights-bearing entity under its own Indigenous law. This makes Rice Lake one of only a handful of water bodies in Canada to receive this kind of legal recognition.
The decision is rooted in the Anishinaabe understanding that the lake is more than a natural resource—it is a living relative, provider, and part of the community's identity. Rather than treating the lake as property, the declaration recognizes that it has inherent rights, deserving of protection.

Have you ever looked up and wondered about the Strawberry Moon? 🌕🍓
While it won't actually appear pink or red, June's beautiful full moon gets its name from Native American Algonquin tribes. Historically, this moon served as a seasonal signal to mark the peak of the wild strawberry harvest—a time of abundance and an important part of the cycle of life.
