Standards are tricky because they contribute to equality in that it gives us all a baseline to work from, but oftentimes these standards are catered to benefit only the more privileged people in society. #schmiteracies

Q2: By placing so much value in following the rules set by the ���dominant” groups in society, (white, heterosexual, middle-upper class, etc) those same people perpetuate their higher status not just in school, but also out in the world. #schmiteracies

@LinMcCarthy7 I’ve observed this in so many contexts, specifically my Spanish classes in high school. Native Spanish speakers (most of the kids in my classes) despite being able to speak Spanish perfectly would be marked down for using the “improper words.” 😠😣#schmiteracies

Textual dexterity describes the ability to engage with a variety of texts. It can be employed in language learning to highlight different perspectives and provide a more critical view of texts as we apply different textual knowledge. #schmiteracies
