Also, it’s pretty messed up for you to say “this man is so emotional and annoying.” That seems like you are saying he’s annoying BECAUSE he’s an emotional man. This is problematic because it contributes to the idea that men shouldn’t show emotion, and that’s not fair/reasonable.

Ponyboy is a loving person who did NOT deserve to be taken from Darry and Soda! For example, Ponyboy runs toward a BURNING CHURCH to save some kids he doesn’t even know. This shows he’s loving because he cares about these kids’ lives even if he’s never met them before.

Also, at the end of the novel, Ponyboy agrees to stop fighting with Darry for Sodapop’s sake. This shows that Ponyboy is willing to put petty arguments aside for the sake of his family, especially Sodapop who he loves a lot.

Johnny didn't really fit in with the greasers, he stuck out like a sore thumb. He shouldn't have really been hanging out with them. He acts like a girl. Honestly, he isn't even an important part of the book... why is he even in it?

A3: Before this class I thought literacy meant reading and writing. Now ~everything~ is a literacy. I thought this was far fetched at the beginning of the course but now I see how so many things count, and how many literacies students have that should be valued #schmiteracies

A2: ELA has a strong affinity toward research and I think boyd’s cautions are really applicable to this. We so often emphasize choosing credible sources, but I think boyd’s speech makes me question how we teach what is “credible” #schmiteracies

A3: standards are helpful in that they give us as teachers a starting point to base our lessons off of. They are harmful in that they often leave out the voices and values of soooo many folks in favor of dominant culture. #schmiteracies
