The Astley Paradox:
If you ask Rick Astley for his copy of the movie Up, he cannot give it to you as he will never give you Up.
However, in doing so he lets you down. Thus creating the Astley Paradox.
Every time I've traded biological arguments with the "gender critical" not ONE of them can define female in a way that doesn't exclude a lot of non trans women.
@platitudist@iAnonymous3000 Also, I would find it pretty "material" if my health info siphoned from Google measure makes me not get insurance, or my bank account frozen because of my political views, or my account closed because Google wrongly flagged a private photo on my phone as porn.
@platitudist@iAnonymous3000 I guess a camera in your bathroom or some unknown group of people had full access to all your private messages and web activity wouldn't pose a "material" problem. It would still pose a huge problem for most of us.
@platitudist@iAnonymous3000 Most people care about privacy and knowing if, and which, private information is shared with whom.
Does it make a difference whether China, Meta or the US has free access to enormous amounts of personal data from billions of people ? Yes. If it didn't, they wouldn't collect it.
@Daramgaria Getting older is a gift because it gives you the ability to reassure young people. Being able to assuage the fears of people going through problems you recognize because you've already been through them is something I would never trade for youth.
@Drug_Researcher And it worked on the first try. At most, someone would have to say "you got to flip it over." Now you need wifi, three connected devices, hdmi cable since casting doesn't work, batteries for the mouse and one student who "knows computers."
@thegenesisbl0ck Babies thrived and developed perfect teeth for literally millions of years on a diet of breast milk and whatever they put in their mouths to gnaw on. No purée or porridge, just milk and actual, local, natural food that needs to be chewed.
@Danny14396 "Is this the technology we are supposed to trust to secure our digital identity and privacy?"
Nope, it was never meant to solve this problem, rather it's the EU's way of making people conclude that the only real solution is to use digital ID for everything.
@AlexAndBooks_ And what the hell does "500,000 Norwegians can't read a simple text message" even mean? What is a simple text message? How old are these 500k persons?
@AlexAndBooks_ Paywalled, so I don't get to read the whole article. But I live in Norway. School starts at age six, and I've never heard of a single 5 year old (or 6 for that matter) being given an unsupervised iPad by *anyone*.
«Hvis totalforsvaret først fungerer når krisen er åpenbar, har det allerede feilet. Samvirket må fungere før krisen oppstår.» Kaveh Roshanfekr Mokri mener Norge må institusjonalisere permanent tverrsektoriell samordning for å møte hybride trusler.
