Chemistry enthusiast and high school teacher. PhD in curriculum instruction and teacher education-trying NGSS in classroom & continuing to learn. She/her
Working on some lessons on light absorption and reflection and wondering if anyone has thought about accomodations for individuals with color blindness? #ngss#phenomenon#equity
@richbacolor@WendyJohnsonMI Totally creating an integrated physics and bio course together! It's exciting! All about deep understanding of matter and energy and application to ecosystems
I have three questions that I don't think I could teach without: *What do you notice? *What are you wondering? *What's your evidence?
They're so simple, but they really help me understand what my Ss are thinking. What are the questions you find yourself using all of the time?
Question for standards based grading teachers: if a 1 is "no evidence" and kid turned in a blank test, dies kid get a 1 for no evidence? #sbg this is our first year doing this. Also note, our grading system is traditional 100 point A-E scale, we're just forcing sbg into it
Lies My Teacher Told Me is the main reason I became a teacher. @JamesWLoewen contributed so much to understanding our own country James Loewen, Author Of 'Lies My Teacher Told Me,' Dies At 79 : NPR https://t.co/ajIVxuZFxK
@kmgill135@richbacolor@WendyJohnsonMI@MSTAMich My high school Ss say the same thing! My student teacher this year came up with an awesome tool to help Ss compare/contrast everyday use of common terms and the science use
@veritasium one of my high school science students asked why spinning ropes or chains make this pattern. I gave my best explanation and consulted my colleague but still couldn't explain the whole phenomenon. Thought it could make a good youtube video
Today, Derek Chauvin was found guilty. But our legal system is still far from just, and students may still feel a lack of closure. We hope you’ll reaffirm the value of Black lives and create space for students to process. These resources can help.

This. We say we want to raise critical thinkers, but when they start to question us/things we criminalize and punish them. We only love thoughtful children in the abstract, just like we theoretically believe in justice.
@sciencewithtyus 1 mind blown 2 it's been rough lately! Had to start class today by saying world feels very overwhelming and unsafe right now let's give each other some grace
So much love for all involved... so lucky to learn from such a knowledgeable, compassionate, and thoughtful group of teachers, writers, and leaders who were involved with the development, piloting, and revision of these engaging 5D storylines! #MeaningfulChemistry@NGSS_tweeps
