@Ross_Greer It’s now at the point people are turning down promotions, making larger pension contributions and avoiding Scotland. When are rates are too high total tax take drops - it’s so basic
@Ross_Greer Serious question Ross. Do you actually know the tax rates in Scotland and disincentive they are to people earning more. E.g if I earned £43,663 and was promoted to a job earning £60k I’d be £6k better off as that extra £16k would be taxed at an effective rate of 63% !!!!!!
@glenreynoldsSNP Pure MAGA style propaganda
The maximum saving for lower rate tax payers is a whole £23 (or 6p a day !!!) but someone on £50,000 pays 21% (£1,542) more tax than if they lived in England
@OlafSNP@HumzaYousaf@NewStatesman 😬you are absolutely right, but not in the way you think.
It'll make the cost of living crisis so much worse, particularly for the lowest paid.
Things might start to improve in 10-15 years though.
@bigemptyheid@outofunion details, mere details! Once Westminster repays the oil money to fund our Norwegian-style oil fund, it'll be so easy.
Just think about, we can reopen Ravenscraig, Linwood and all the mines again.
Cost of each job can't be more than £1m a pop (same cost as the ferry jobs)
@OlafSNP@LesleyRiddoch@IndyLiveStream @Celebs4indy @believeinscot Hands up who thinks Scotland would really have saved up a sovereign wealth fund. We would have blown it all keeping open Linwood, Ravenscraig and all the pits !
@Erudite4Unity the EU would likely accept an application from Scotland to join BUT ONLY if Scotland satisfied the entry requirements.
#1 on the list would be getting our deficit down towards 3% of GDP. Can the Nats please explain how we bridge that £20billion gap.
@lesleys20 so even with record oil revenues (not sustainable) the latest GERS report shows Scotland's deficit is 9% of GDP - and 10.8% without the oil revenues.
So to comply with the EU criteria of max 3% deficit where are the £15billion-£20billion savings coming from?
Please do tell?!
Is now a good time to point out that Wings Over Scotland's journalism is only possible because its readers support it with very modest monthly subscriptions?

@STVNews Where is the sense of outrage about what transpired with the SNP’s finances.
The Sturgeon cult and Trump cult are barely distinguishable now 🫣
@ConnorGillies@SkyNews These things always happen in 3s. Three of the most authoritarian populists - Trump, Boris and Sturgeon - having terrible weeks 😉
