This book is fantastic and wonderful and I think so many people, children and adults, can enjoy it and have beautiful and important conversations about it. That being said, if the roles were reversed, would your empathy run as deep and steadfast?

Up until now, I’ve always thought that animal/dog mc books are very babyish and insult children’s intellect and ability to understand emotionally tense stories. Anyways I just finished this and spent the last 30 minutes bawling my eyes out.

But because it’s about dogs instead, the story is allowed to be told and finds itself on aware winner/state sanctioned school reading lists with ease.

A majority of Houstonians can’t read this bc they have no power or wifi. I ask you and your buddies in Austin to come together and make this state hospitable for everyone, not just those who can afford to leave when they want to.

@cuethelibrarian I took a “diverse populations” class where we did a lot of the same things included in sensitivity trainings in college which ended up being one of my favorite classes ever but haven’t done anything that in depth professionally.

Stop cheating yourself out of language experiences and stop treating reading as a chore or mountain to climb! Reading SHOULD be fun and relaxing and engaging. Developing life long habits should always include doing whatever works best for you.

Student comes in to return a book he’s had for a while.

I ask if he enjoyed it since he said he really liked its tv adaptation.

He said “no, it was really different and hard to read”

I would also use the audiobook when I taught the novel Inside Out and Back Again so that my students were able to hear the Vietnamese spoken by a native speaker. My 5th graders BEGGED me to find more audiobooks to listen to after this.
