The Catholic tradition holds clearly that how we treat migrants is how we treat Christ as explained by Erga Migrantes Caritas Christi (issued under JP2)
Inhumane treatment of migrants and refugees would be like someone spitting on the Eucharist or insulting the Blessed mother.
Being "pro life" means defending the lives of
the unborn
and
the sick
the poor
the homeless
the aged
the mentally challenged
the inmate
the refugee
and the person or people you hate.
Being pro life means reverencing
all human life.
Because it's all from God.
Embedded in the #Epiphany narrative are 3 truths that should make Christian nationalists tremble:
1. true greatness is not found in gilded palaces but stinky stables as God chooses to be with us, especially those on the margins. Do we seek God with the Gold or in the poor? 1/2
@BishopMiehm@DiocesePtbo@cathedralstpet And Merry Christmas to you Bishop Dan, all the way from Germany where Karen and I are celebrating with our son and daughter-in-law. Peace to you and yours.
In 1977, when I was a young editor of the Catholic Worker, Jim Forest shared with me a letter he received from Thomas Merton in 1966. I edited and published it in the CW under the title "Letter to a Young Activist." It speaks to our own moment better than anything I can think of.
Young people must be part of decision-making processes — at the @UN and beyond.
This is a core element of the reforms proposed at the Summit of the Future.
We need a new model to make peace with nature and overcome the contradictions that led to today’s conflicts.
We strongly condemn the murder of Rebecca Cheptegei, the third elite runner to be murdered in Kenya. All suspects were intimate partners of the athletes.
No impunity for perpetrators.
The trend of #femicide must be stopped.

‘We cannot and will not stand by and silently accept that tens of thousands of people dying by gun violence each year is simply part of life... Nor can we accept excuses from political leaders that there is nothing that can be done. To do nothing is to be complicit…”

Today marks six years since the passing of former @UN Secretary-General #KofiAnnan.
We remember him as a gender equality advocate who fought fiercely for human rights.
His legacy lives on.
My message to young people worldwide:
Do not accept that what we have today is inevitable.
Do not accept that you cannot transform things.
If we want to change the world, we need to unite, mobilize, and fight for a better future for all.

I condemn the continued loss of life in Gaza.
Amidst continued horror, displacement & suffering, we have witnessed yet another devastating strike by Israel on a school in Gaza City.
I reiterate my urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire & the unconditional release of all hostages.
