The Mayor picking the Memorial Day weekend to announce Africa Day would be laughable if it were not such a solemn occasion. This is just his latest desperate attempt to rally Black voters who have given him dismal approval ratings.
He will use the most offensive and divisive rhetoric to rally support in the face of his inability to address the city’s catastrophic financial crisis and the needs of long underserved communities.
The city’s facing THREE financial meltdowns. For the city it’s an over $1 billion shortfall, for the mayor-controlled schools it’s over $1 billion, and for the mayor-controlled CTA, almost $600 million.
Meanwhile the Mayor’s CTU allies and socialist supporters push for a plethora of tax increases at both the city and state level to bailout the city, its schools and its transit system.
The Mayor made things much worse by prioritizing illegal migrants over the Black community providing them $600 million in city support and between $210-400 million from the schools.
Let’s not forget Johnson delivered his patrons at CTU another $1.5 billion contract to help them get re-elected at taxpayer expense. Meanwhile, minority children reading and math scores are abysmal and poor families are denied alternatives for their children to their failing schools.
All Chicagoan’s suffer but poorest Chicagoans who can’t leave the city are stuck in high crime neighborhoods with few economic opportunities, paying ever increasing taxes , fees and fines while their children are held hostage in failing neighborhood schools.
Rest assured, he will continue his divisive rhetoric and political stunts, behaving like a political arsonist, hoping his voters will once again buy his talk while ignoring his walk
I am hearing from sources within Local 2 that they are meeting with the city for contract negotiations this morning. Surrounded by the CFD brass, Mayor Johnson said in a press conference yesterday that he does not take the service of the members of the fire department for granted…
Yes, you do, Brandon. You have for 710 days - since the day you took office after promising them that no union should go one day without a contract. You have taken for granted the veil of protection they cast over us all - the bravest of us who are willing to lay down their lives for perfect strangers.
Put your money where your mouth is, Mr. Mayor. Show up today. Show up to the firefighters’ negotiations and get them a contract. Kick open the door and tell your lackeys to get it done. Put your thumb on the scale the same way you put your thumb on the scale to ensure your handlers at CTU got the most lucrative contract in their history. While I’m not quite sure the people of Chicago would agree that the teachers deserve that contract, I think all of us agree the sacrifices the men and women of Local 2 have made have certainly earned them a contract.
1,394 days without a contract. Without a raise. Without one morsel of respect from the City of Chicago. 1,394 days for the men and women who are laying down their lives to protect us all. Mayor Johnson spoke for all of us yesterday: “For us, we do not take that for granted.” That protection you all provide. We are ashamed to say that you all are being taken for granted - by this mayor, by your city, and by all of us. Of all days, Mayor Johnson, today is the day to sign this contract.
Did anyone in the media notice that the Mayor’s $830 million infrastructure borrowing for initiative allows him to make loans and grants to the school district so the city can help pay for the new teachers contract without going through City Council.
The city already provides schools district over $1 billion in annual unprecedented subsidies along with addition to 56% of all property tax revenues. The city has provided the district with $1.3 billion in “additional” property tax revenues since 2019 through the TIF program.
Meanwhile, is anyone in the City Council going to respond to Mayor Johnson squandering $253 million in subsidies on just four projects that will generate just 415 affordable housing units. Thats an average of $609.5K per unit.
