The MS Men's Amateur Championship is June 4-7.  I thought someone might be interested in this list of past champions--golfers who were well known to Mississippi sports fans back in the day when newspapers covered local sports.

The return of ALLY EWING!!!

Ally was 18th in the world and 14th in the LPGA standing when she retired at the end of the 2024 season. She hasn't played a pro event in 18 months but she is in the field at this week's U.S. Women's Open. Hope this is the start of a comeback.

MSU men had the 2nd best rd at the NCAA Chmp today with a -9. Moved them to +7 and 17th, but they missed the top-15 cut by 5 strokes. Ole Miss had their best rd at Even and finished +20 and T26.

Cole lost the playoff so Suber gets knocked out of next week's Signature event.

Jackson Suber update: Eric Cole is in a 2-way playoff for the Charles Schwab event. If Cole wins then he qualifies for the next Signature event via the Aon Next 10 category and Suber gets in as well. If Cole loses, he gets in via Aon Swing 5 category and Suber gets bumped out.

Chiara Tamburlini (Ole Miss/Swiss) finished with a -3 at the LPGA ShopRite event in New Jersey. This moved her 21 spots up the leaderboard with a T40 finish. Improved each day, going from +3 to E to -3.

MS PGA Final results:
--Jackson Suber: +5 today, +3 tot (69-69-70-75), T67
--Davis Riley: +5, +5 tot (66-71-73-75), T71
--Suber is currently out on qualifying for the next Signature event--he needs currently leader Eric Cole to win and Mac Meissner to falter slightly.

MS KFT Final results:
--Hayden Buckley: +5 today, +1 tot (68-68-70-75), T38
--Braden Thornberry: +7, +7 tot (65-70-75-77), T66
--Both players had such a promising start and then a difficult weekend. Same pattern happened on the PGA. It was a tough week to be a MS golfer fan.

Michael La Sasso shot a +4 to finish +4 and T50 at LIV Korea. Brings his ind/team earnings to $1,258,850 this year. Meanwhile his former OM teammates will miss the top-15 cut at the NCAA's today. MLS staying at OM wouldn't have given them a championship. He made the right move.

Ole Miss & MS State both had better 2nd rds at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship but it will be hard for them to make the top-15 cut after the 3rd rd. MSU was +7 today, is +17 total and 25th. Ole Miss was +5 today, is +20 total and T26.

Chiara Tamburlini (Ole Miss/Swiss) had an Even par 2nd rd at the LPGA ShopRite event in New Jersey with clutch birdies on the 16th & 18th. This got her to +3 tot, T61, and advancing on the cut line. It's always nice to get a paycheck by making the cut.

Jackson Suber was E today, is -2 tot and T46 at this week's PGA event. In his 3 rds he has played his last 4 holes in +2, +4 and +3 (one rd started on hole 10). That's 9 strokes given up late in an event where -12 is currently leading. That makes one think "what if".

Davis Riley had a +3 in the 3rd rd of this week's PGA event. Has him Even overall (66-71-73) and T59. His opening 66 was an amazing putting day, but that can't continually mask the problems of Driving Accuracy (17/42, 40.48%), GIR (30/54, 55.56%) and -4.918 on SG off the tee.

Hayden Buckley was E in his 3rd rd at the KFT event in Raleigh, a round where he stayed in the -1 to +1 range all day. This kept him at -4 total and it moved him up the leaderboard one spot to T15.
