Love and Deepspace’s new male character, Valko (Ao Yin), is facing massive backlash from Chinese players.
Some Chinese fans are boycotting the game, claiming the character looks "too gay" and arguing that the developers are neglecting existing characters. The developers even received death threats over the design, prompting them to release an official statement clarifying that all of the game’s love interests are strictly heterosexual.
The character's official reveal on Weibo pulled in over 750,000 comments, making it one of the game’s largest and most controversial announcements to date.
Ultimately, the severe backlash led to the character's cancellation so the team could refocus on existing characters. This decision, however, sparked a secondary backlash from Western audiences who were upset by the character's removal, resulting in over 30,000 replies on the developers' recent apology tweet.
@Gacha_Zone Hayatlarında hiç gay görmediklerine yemin edebilirim oyun zaten kadınlara yönelik ve karakterlerde gay sinyalleri bile yok. Ucube Çinliler yüzünden bir oyunun rezilliğini izliyoruz
