I have a new story in the Washington Post on how Burning Man die-hards hope this year's lackluster ticket sales will mean a throwback to the old days, before "sparkleponies" and Silicon Valley ruined it https://t.co/8HOaGAq6cp
What I don't get about academia is the chronic lack of celebration. It is hard to get & maintain grant funding, hard to get papers accepted without Faustian bargains, hard to be a great mentor, & hard to maximize trainee success. All of it is hard. We should celebrate everything.
One of the best things about attending conferences is that you get a chance to see what your former students are up to. It's great to see what @masterolojist@MSrigyan@genesandstuff have turned into

Here is a shameless plug for my first postdoc paper, a big collaboration with lots of cool people at UCSC, particularly co-first author Chloe Orland.
Read it to learn about abalone, population bottlenecks, IBD (or lack thereof), and chrom. inversions!

🕯️💡Our new study illuminates the mystery of why insects swarm around lights! Turns out, it's not attraction, but disorientation - insects mistake artificial lights for the sky and spiral around them. @FIU@NatGeoExplorers@dragonflyneuro@FloridaMuseum

Happy to share our paper on Indian wolves (Indian peninsular and Himalayan wolves).
Indian wolves are unique and ancient with no gene flow between the wolves.
