Today, we commemorate the ADA, an instrumental force in promoting accessibility. While we reflect on the progress we have made, we also recognize that there is still work to be done. Together, we continue to champion the cause and amplifying the voices of those living with MS.
What’s up Gymmers!
One of the most important areas of your body that needs continuous “maintenance” is your SPINE.
Most traditional programs labeled as SPINAL HEALTH commonly focus on:
#1 The Low Back
#2 The Neck
They rarely focus on THE most mobile part of your spine that makes up HALF your vertebral canal.
This area is called the THORACIC SPINE.
It is comprised of 12 (out of 24) vertebrae that are needed for you to be able to:
1. Rotate your upper body
2. Lean to the side
3. Bend forward & Stand upright
4. Create core strength
5. Walk
6. Breathe
So… it’s kind of important don’t you think?
Sadly, many people with neurologic conditions are forced to SIT A LOT during the day and slump forward
as they strain to walk.
This can lead to the thoracic spine becoming overly tight on the front side and very weak on the back
side.
This neurologic joint & muscle imbalance WILL create problems with mobility, blood pressure regulation,
breathing capacity, core strength, and balance.
Today’s drill will GREATLY help improve all those things – the drill is called a THORACIC ROTATION.
As you focus on this drill, please focus on:
1. Straight spine
2. Blades pulled down
3. Abs in
4. MOVING FROM YOUR MID BACK and not your arm or low back
5. Breathing IN as you rotate toward your grounded arm
6. Breathing OUT as you open up your ribs and rotate upward
*** NOTE: I demonstrate this drill on hands and knees but it CAN ALSO BE DONE SITTING IN A CHAIR
Let’s move

After being diagnosed with MS, Natalina’s physiotherapist recommended exercise to alleviate fatigue and while she felt stronger, she still faced challenges. Her advice? “Be patient, don’t give up and be kind to yourself.”
