Homework is a social justice issue.
If students don't have a safe space to do homework, especially graded homework, what are we really evaluating?
Not their ability to learn the material.
Excellent provocation from @Jessifer#OntEd
In my experience, “children are too young to learn about (insert topic)” is almost always about adults’ comfort rather than children’s, and by the time children are “old enough”, they’ve already learned misinformation that needs to be unlearned.
When learning about RJE, do not weaponize “relationships” by centering WS and fragility. RJE will require acknowledgement of harm, addressing racism, and reflecting on how systemic racism operates. For trust in relationships to happen, truth telling must occur. That’s reparations
One of the most ambitious projects I've ever worked on at the @globeandmail is LIVE!

Back in Feb, during the 2nd wave, I spent some time scrolling over a map of COVID-19 cases in Peel Region and one area popped out: the L6P postal code in north Brampton.
82% of GTA COVID-19 cases appear to be low-income & racialized people - mostly in 10 main hotspots. 51% earn less than $25,000. In households w. income > $150,000 not even 1% have been infected. We've fallen far short of our egalitarian pretenses.
Ontario has failed to protect the vulnerable.
Essential workers without #PaidSickDays, who can’t “stay-at-home”, are being ravaged by #COVID19 & infecting their families.
The anger expressed @DrKaliBarrett is felt by all watching this injustice. #onpoli
A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because “you look suspicious.” I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat.
No one can tell me that if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protestors yesterday that they wouldn’t have been treated very differently than the mob that stormed the Capitol.
We all know that’s true — and it’s unacceptable.
What we witnessed today was an assertion of white power. White people are the only group that can spin a fake grievance into violent chaos and not face bodily harm, columnist @ShreeParadkar writes. https://t.co/AKukGjwEju
If Muslims stormed into the U.S Capitol - they would be dead - but Muslims like myself would be tweeting our outrage & trying SO HARD to prove Islam is a peaceful religion.
My white colleagues don’t need to prove anything after today’s violence.
That’s why we call it privilege.
