My mom taught mathematics at Ithaca College for many years. She taught me this. I apply this idea to regrouping and call them funny numbers. 82–25? "Seventy-twelve" minus 25 is 57. 4 x 13? Forty-twelve is 52. 42÷3? Thirty-twelve ÷ 3 = 14. Thanks, Mom!
