I still laugh to myself when I think of my last principal saying, “If we can’t find a replacement for you in the next 2 weeks, we have bigger problems.”
I’d already given 5 weeks of notice.
They still have not found a permanent replacement and others have left. Bless his ❤️.
At the closing of the @K8LitCon conference, @LucyCalkins supported teachers in their quest to meet readers where they are, not where they are "supposed" to be. Independent Reading is a perfect way to do that. #K8LitCon
Finally watching How to Get Away with Murder (thanks, Netflix + job change) and am ever grateful that in 15+ years of teaching I never had a group of students as bad as Annalise Keating’s murder crew. 😬😂 #HTGAWM
I’ll always be grateful to my 2nd year of students at The Academy who shamed me, their pre-AP English teacher, into finally reading Harry Potter.
This #HarryPotter20thAnniversary reunion is such a joy. ❤️🥺
Announced to 5th period that there’s no SSR today because of the on-demand summative.
Immediately from the back: “What?! NOOOO! This is the best part of my day. You can’t take it away!!” 😍
Teenagers *will* read if you let them. (And this one finished early & SSRed after all.)
Spending a chunk of my weekend grading has been survivable thanks to my fall candle, Christmas jazz (I will run every season together if I want to; don’t @ me), and a string of movies on in the background.
I *hate* this part of being a teacher.
At the beginning of 6th period, I let my kids know SSR would be a bit shorter today. Immediate retort from a student: “On the one day I WANT to read?! Miss Watkins, you broke me. I actually like this book!”
I died. 😂😍
She’s reading With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.
5th period has turned into a class of readers. When the SSR timer went off today, they negotiated for more time. And NOW one student is reading her book aloud during independent work time. (She’s finished with her work and gave all of a recap of what we’ve missed so far.) 📚❤️
Exercising some student choice #TodayAtDCI as we explore some indigenous cultures. Some are working alone; others are in pairs. Some chose to do @Nearpod first; others are in the hallway completing a gallery walk. 👍🏼😎
