Yes! We don’t need the powerpoints and peardecks. Or grammar activities or prompts. Kids need choice & time. Short focus lesson, indep writing time, conferences, chances to talk w/ a partner. It doesn’t need to look different. @FCPSR5@fcpsmsela@FCPSElemLA
Writing about our experiences allows us to understand the world around us and ourselves more deeply. Sharing our writing and reading that of others allows us to connect more deeply. If not now, when? @fcpsmsela

“So is it OK if a kid only wants to read graphic novels? Experts say yes. Research found that GN averaged 53.5 rare, or more complex, words per 1,000. That's more than children's books which average 30.9 and even adult books at 52.7.” https://t.co/wTU2uW27On

Conferring as formative assessment - it’s the highest form of differentiation. Why confer? It develops relationships with students. It informs instruction and because each student is a different kind of reader and writer. @FCPS_OSS@jensweda@fcpssecliteracy
