BREAKING UPDATE to pinned tweet: my book is not coming out in March. It's coming out on Tuesday. Get your copy before the 'Christmas rush' (a Mrs Trellis, of North Wales).
When I asked them if they were worried about privacy, they said wearily that big corporations were siphoning all their personal data anyway, so they might as well make the info freely available.
I am going to post this Tweet, and then walk into the sea.
Today is the day I became Old.
Me: "Do we know if [slightly late student] is on her way?"
Other student: "Yeah, I can see her on my phone."
Me: "...What?"
Student: "She's on Snapchat, so I always know where she is. See? There she is coming down the road. There's someone in Balliol, someone's in the Sackler..."
Me: "So... all your friends know exactly where you are, at all times."
Student: "Well, you can always go into Ghost Mode."
I also moved back to @StJohnsOx, where I'll be based until 2021, and where I was an undergraduate. Seeing my name on a St John's doorplate in the old familiar typeface was, I admit, a Moment.
This week I left @MertonCollege, where I have been very happy for the last three years. I'm immensely grateful to the whole Merton community for its hospitality and support.
WHOOO wants to see the whites of my eyes in London, tomorrow, at the Forbidden Planet megastore?? Saturday 1 o'clock signing of GIDEON THE NINTH, so BE THE LAST to see me before I attain my Final Form

Lovely morning talking to summer school students @wadhamoxford about gender in the ancient world! Managed a whistlestop tour of Semonides of Amorgos, Fleabag, the Oeconomicus, curse tablets, and Kelis' 'Milkshake' (which the youth still recognise, thank God).
@aeromachia a) GOOD LUCK from us both, b) do not fret over minmaxing! You'll be fine as long as everyone is decent with their main skill and you don't charge Linhardt at five heavy cavalry. Slow and careful tends to work in FE.
Science fiction is a genre of startling transformations. Today I witnessed the transformation of @tazmuir after a panel and an interview (far-eyed, troubled) into @tazmuir after a plate of completely incredible chicken gyoza (beatific).
