Mona Khalil died today from wounds sustained when an Israeli strike hit her home earlier this month, having survived war, occupation, threats & decades of hardship.
For more than 25 years, she dedicated her life to protecting endangered sea turtles on Lebanon’s southern coast, transforming Mansouri Beach into a sanctuary for one of the Mediterranean’s most vulnerable species.
She refused to abandon the home & sanctuary she built.
She wasn’t a politician.
She wasn’t a military commander.
She wasn’t even someone documenting the conflict.
While others counted missiles & frontlines, she counted nests, hatchlings & returning turtles.
She spent her life helping endangered creatures survive.
Today, Mona succumbed to her injuries.
She was not a fighter.
She was a guardian of life.
The turtles of Mansouri have lost their protector. 🥀
@taylorgarron It's odd too, looking at their profile- i would have expected this from some kind of tech bro efficiency maxxer, not an underemployed gooner
Mosquitos: drink blood, aversion to running water. We will uplift them, and find we have undone an ancient work; they will begin compulsively counting grains of rice
stoner in 1976: i just smoked 12 joints in a row and now i like bluegrass music 10% more
stoner in 2026: i did a dab and gave myself wernicke’s aphasia
three months after my grandma's death and every time i see this image my mind always goes back to me and my mom hugging each other in silence during her funeral
@RealestUzumaki@maiamindel And plenty of weighty, challenging work that's absolutely garbage! The Little Prince is worth ten of anything John Gray ever wrote
