History will not record this as a misunderstanding; it will remember it as betrayal. Behind its gleaming skyline, luxurious towers, and polished image of modernity, Abu Dhabi launched a quiet but ruthless campaign—not against external enemies, but at the heart of the Arab world. What was once "brotherhood" gradually turned into hostility, sabotage, and open alliances with forces opposed to Arab and Islamic interests. This is documented history.

A Grudge That Never Died: Saudi Arabia

Leaked Wikileaks cables reveal what official smiles tried to hide. A document dated July 31, 2006, quoted Mohammed bin Zayed, then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi: "The UAE has fought 57 wars against the Saudis, and the Saudis are not my close friends."

Other cables indicate old disputes still shadow UAE-Saudi relations. This resentment was not fleeting; it was ideological, personal, and deep. In April 2008, Mohammed bin Zayed told the U.S. Navy chief the UAE remained optimistic despite being in a “backward” region, citing Saudi Arabia as an example. His brother, Abdullah bin Zayed, went further, actively urging Washington against the Kingdom, expressing hatred for its leadership (June 2008 leaked document).

At the core lies a fabricated grievance: the false belief that King Faisal forced Sheikh Zayed into humiliating territorial concessions. Historical records contradict this, yet the myth fueled conflict.

Envy and Inferiority

Abu Dhabi could never accept status. Saudi Arabia commands influence that cannot be bought: the Two Holy Mosques, the Kaaba, spiritual authority, vast territory, natural resources, and Vision 2030’s transformative momentum.

While Saudi Arabia advanced economically and socially, Abu Dhabi watched its investments, tourism, and global attention wane. The result was not healthy competition but a toxic strategy of retaliation.

Strategic Miscalculation

Instead of confronting fears honestly, Abu Dhabi chose the shortest path to power: presenting itself as a “Trojan horse” in the Arab world. This was not pragmatism—it was a historic blunder.

Sabotage Across the Arab World

The damage spread widely:

Yemen: Abu Dhabi undermined unity efforts, sabotaging Saudi-led initiatives and empowering militias, establishing parallel security structures, secret prisons, and supporting separatists. Control of strategic ports and islands turned a humanitarian tragedy into a geopolitical battlefield.

Libya: UAE armed and funded factions opposed to the internationally recognized government, intensifying national wounds.

Sudan: Abu Dhabi supported the Rapid Support Forces, fueling chaos and mass atrocities. A UN report confirmed an air bridge transporting weapons through Chad and networks for gold smuggling ensured militias survived while Sudan collapsed into a humanitarian disaster.

The Judgment of History

Arab states largely responded with restraint, hoping illusions of grandeur would fade. They did not. Abu Dhabi chose arrogance over accountability, conspiracy over integrity.

Consequences are unfolding. When history delivers its verdict, no skyscraper, lobby, or propaganda machine can rewrite this chapter.
