This has to be the most frustratingly casual take I’ve ever seen on this app, and it proves that half the fandom desperately needs to read a book. The new HBO series isn't making a "nice little nostalgic reference to the original movies" by showing Harry put on the Invisibility Cloak on Christmas morning. They are literally just adapting the exact source material from The Sorcerer's Stone text that the movies also adapted twenty years ago.

Reframing foundational, iconic plot points from the books as a "movie easter egg" completely misses the entire purpose of why this TV show even exists. The series isn't trying to copy or pay homage to the Warner Bros films, it's a completely blank slate adaptation starting from scratch. Calling a direct book scene a reference to a movie is top-tier delusion.
