Whether we are in the same political party with Malam Nasir El-Rufai or not is beside the point.

What the Minister of Defence said on national television about a former Minister and former Governor who has served this country in different capacities was completely unnecessary and beneath the office he occupies.

You may disagree with El-Rufai politically. You may challenge his policies, record or opinions. But throwing terrorism allegations at him because you are a Christian from Southern Kaduna is foolishness and a lack of political substance. This is not how to gain political influence, Village Man.

Gen. Christopher Musa’s claim that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir @elrufai was allegedly planning to kill his people (sic: Southern Kaduna Christians) raises a very serious moral and professional question. @leeyah2k this is for your boss.

Many of us who are not “his people” supported Gen. Musa’s appointment over our own man, Badaru; not because he was more beloved to us, and would NEVER be more beloved to us, but because we believed he would deliver results and restore confidence in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and banditry.

But nearly three years on, what exactly can Nigerians point to as his defining achievement?

In September 2023, he promised that terrorists and bandits would be driven out of Nigeria completely. In January 2025, he described 2025 as the year terrorism & banditry would end. In Sept 2024, he said Bello Turji’s days were numbered. In June 2026, he identified financing, informants and community logistics as the “oxygen” sustaining terrorism.

Yet Boko Haram, ISWAP and armed bandit groups remain operational, communities continue to suffer attacks and kidnappings, and Nigerians are still waiting for the promised decisive victory.

So I have a simple question for Gen. Christopher: is this new allegation about El-Rufai genuinely about something he knew while serving as a General, or is it now being brought into the public space because the milestones you promised Nigerians were not achieved?

If you genuinely knew that a sitting or former governor was planning to harm Southern Kaduna people, what did you do with that information at the time? And if you knew but did nothing, that raises an even more serious question of responsibility.

More importantly, Nigerians deserve answers on the promises you made: How many terrorists and bandits have actually been neutralised? How many communities have been liberated and remain secure? What happened to the 2025 deadline? What is the present status of Bello Turji? How many financiers and logistics providers have been prosecuted and convicted?

Gen. CY, Nigerians supported you because we expected performance, not excuses. If the security strategy has failed to meet the targets you publicly set, the answer should be accountability, measurable results and an honest explanation; not shifting the conversation elsewhere.

We supported you because we believed you could deliver, even though we are not your people & would never be. Now, we deserve to know what happened.
