@Corpetty I appreciate you sharing this. If we’re going to start a healing process and perhaps a cultural shift, we need to be talking with each other, and to move beyond gendered assumptions and polarising politicking. We are each far more nuanced, layered and interesting than that.

Why do we value homogeneity so much in fashion?
Middle class: can afford to buy in mainstream retailers => all look similar
Relative poverty: shop at Humana => hard to find trending anything
Wealthy: pay top-dollar to wear avant-garde fashion
Basically it’s all bullshit, right?

Would be nice if we all had more courage to wear whatever we want. If we all thrifted more, we’d be more individually unique and expressive — plus we’d be opting out of a horribly damaging industry.

Heritage went up in flames today💔. The Great IsiXhosa Dictionary as well as both Isigidimi Sabantsundu & Izimvo Zabantsundu were housed right there at Special Collections library. Just like that, it went up in smoke. Thoroughly heartbroken by this. #capetownfire
