Truth is bitter, but I agree with your perspective.

To be honest, people underestimate how much money can be made from small businesses. The size of a business doesn't determine its profitability. Good management does.

Akara is one of those businesses people look down on, yet it has a steady market. People buy it every morning because it's affordable, filling, and convenient. If you're in a strategic location and maintain quality, you can build a profitable business from it.

The real problem is poor financial management. Many people spend both their capital and their profit, then conclude the business isn't profitable. A disciplined person reinvests, saves, and expands over time.

That said, I understand why many Nigerians reacted to the First Lady's statement. There is nothing wrong with encouraging honest businesses like akara. The issue is that people also expect leaders to create an economy where citizens have access to bigger opportunities, not just survive through petty trading.

There is dignity in honest work, whether it's selling akara or running a multinational company. What matters is creating an environment where people have the freedom to grow beyond where they started.
