Backed by financial guarantees from two prominent local banks, OK Zimbabwe has unlocked critical credit facilities to launch a major restocking initiative. Key industry manufacturers—including Dairibord, ZimGold, Olivine, National Foods, and Nestlé—have officially resumed deliveries, bringing staple products back to shelves across its storefronts.#OKZimbabweRecovery

The legal battle has predictably triggered a fresh wave of public sensationalism. While the Pretoria High Court deals with administrative papers, citizenship technicalities, and bureaucratic checks, lost in the noise is a crucial reality: this is a qualified, highly competent professional who earned his seat at the table through merit, education, and years of dedicated public service.

Kebone Masange didn’t fake an Honours Degree in Regional and Urban Planning—he earned it through hard study and proven expertise. You cannot fake actual competence, infrastructure management, or delivering complex municipal frameworks as a Town Planner and Head of Department. Technical skill, professional delivery, and pure merit are what built his career, not administrative paperwork.
​The weaponization of immigration technicalities against qualified African cross-border talent misses the entire point of professional service. Born to a South African mother and raised in Zimbabwe, Masange’s heritage reflects the reality of SADC families. Instead of erasing years of dedicated public service over bureaucratic paperwork battles, we should judge a professional by his actual work and the infrastructure he helped build.

Nelson Chamisa’s lesson on persistence exposes his own political contradictions

Nelson Chamisa recently cited Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s long journey to power as a lesson in persistence, patience and consistency. The principle is sound, but Chamisa’s own political record raises questions about how consistently he has applied it.

Political consistency is demonstrated through sustained commitment to institutions, structures and supporters, especially during difficult periods. Hichilema contested Zambia’s presidency several times before winning in 2021, remaining within the United Party for National Development throughout years of defeat and pressure.

Chamisa’s rise was far quicker. After taking over the MDC-T following Morgan Tsvangirai’s death in 2018, he sought the presidency that same year. He later founded the Citizens Coalition for Change in 2022, but withdrew from it in January 2024, leaving elected representatives, structures and supporters facing uncertainty.

That decision contrasts sharply with the lesson he draws from Hichilema’s experience. Political movements require continuity, internal accountability and mechanisms for resolving disputes. Walking away from a political vehicle during internal difficulties raises legitimate questions about institutional commitment and resilience.

There is also tension between Chamisa’s advice to ignore detractors and his public engagement with critics, including figures such as Hopewell Chin’ono. Leaders will inevitably face criticism, but repeated online disputes can make it harder to convince supporters that discipline and focus are being consistently practised.

Chamisa is right that political success requires perseverance. But leadership is judged not only by the lessons leaders communicate, but also by the example they set. Persistence cannot be demanded from supporters while political projects are abandoned when they encounter difficulties.

Hichilema’s victory was the result of years of endurance within one political organisation. If Chamisa’s message is to carry greater weight, his own political conduct must more closely reflect the patience, consistency and institutional commitment he advocates.

It is for this exact reason that I welcomed the appointment of Senator Tagwirei. The expectation is that he will leverage his business expertise within government. He would likely be most effective as the Minister of Industry and Commerce, where his corporate background could be applied toward industrial revitalization.

President Ruto states that democracy is not tested when people agree, but when they disagree. He acknowledges that elections naturally produce winners and losers. Some will celebrate, others will be disappointed but asserts that once the contest ends, the country must remain united.

If Ramaphosa, in his role as SADC Chair, didn't call out Zambia, it means the elections were above board. SADC isn't a toothless dog; its teeth only bite when there’s actually something to bite.
