In a blind test 80% of voters preferred Kamala's economic policies to Trump's. This is not solely a policy problem. The only part of Trumpism worth copying is his charisma and controversy. His policies are trash. Imagine a bold Democratic Party with a spine, unapologetically arguing for universal programs but with an arrogant asshole leading the charge. That's the formula. Don't listen to the idiots who are screaming Dems should go right on the border (they already did!) or that they should throw trans people under the bus.
Parents, if you have boys over the age of 10 with internet access of almost any kind, they're going to see people making "your body, my choice" jokes in comment sections and you should talk to them about it.
At the start of COVID, the government implemented many social programs that helped people who were struggling. These programs were immensely popular.
Yet instead of fighting hard to extend and expand them, Democrats prematurely declared the pandemic was over and let them expire.
Check out this @Ipsos poll from last month. People who answered factual questions about inflation, crime, and immigration incorrectly were "more likely to opt for Trump," Ipsos said, while those who answered correctly preferred Harris. https://t.co/eHzrIb0TLi
I’m seeing a lot of lefties talking about a failure to appeal to the working class but I think we should be more specific about some of the tensions embedded in this conversation, and I’m going to start with one of Biden’s signature policies - the expanded child tax credit /1
Democrats see value in blunting the worst aspects of society. But a majority of people don't. A majority of people agree with Republicans that some people should be hurt (the "right" people, of course) some helped (rich people) and everybody else should just deal with reality.
The challenge, after a loss, is to learn something *new.* Most people aren't doing that right now. They're taking in information and trying to fit that within their prevailing world view.
The NEW thing I'm learning is: People do not and will not vote for harm mitigation...
If you haven’t been wearing a mask in public because the govt told you covid was over,
first off they lied to you
and secondly, now would be a great time to start back up again before we get an h5n1 pandemic with no vaccines
Right now we’re in it but if you were to look back at this era w the benefit of a century it would be CLEAR that the pandemic, just like in 1918, accelerated fascism as it brought eugenicist ideas into the mainstream
So many of us said men were being radicalized as extreme misogynists & that it was dangerous. Y’all didn’t want to listen. Instead you blamed male loneliness on women
One thing I realized from listening to a bunch of interviews with the undecided voters is they really have no idea what is going on. They don't know about DEI or facism. They don't know what any of the policies are.
They didn't like that groceries were expensive. That was it.
also, right now, the hub of that propaganda apparatus is the world's richest man, a pretty useful thing, if you're looking to put a face on the problem
I know Democrats believe the collapse of our society into fascism isn't the problem they were elected to solve but it's the problem we face, and the collapse starts with the massive propaganda apparatus they've built. target it
the right has built an almost incomprehensibly vast worldwide nazi-recruitment-and-radicalization machine and aimed at every man below 30 on the globe, and the democrats' response is like "we're gonna get them back with student debt relief :)"
