@sleafordmods Thanks so much for a wonderful show! Haven't had so much fun in a while! Also to @poziband, who were absolutely brilliant as well. Can't wait to dig into their discography.
@Palomar_qfwfq Can't DM you, but if you have a spare, may I have one? (Since twitter is being x'd, I'd like to expatriate myself to wherever the eleven other Calvino-, Kafka-, & Van Goghians go.)
@philipcball Not sure what to call this (maybe - ignoring the functional harmony of the choral - E^b9 over C), but what happens after 0:17 is magic: https://t.co/vaJWgHpaIe
@randow Schon beängstigend, wie einfach Bild & Co. ein neues Feindbild etablieren können, und wie bereitwillig die breite Gesellschaft UND der Rechtsstaat es übernehmen.
@electricalWSOP So beautiful that you still hear all four guitarists individual techniques even though they share patterns between them.
Bill Orcutt is the patron saint of everything I love about the electric guitar.
@verschwndn Yeah, there are a few scans in the critical edition (the white books), and some high-quality scans of some letters and notes containing doodles and drawings in the Die Zeichnungen book. Also in a few of Wagenbach's collections of images. Here's one from Das Urteil.
@AmschelKavka I do. German is my native tongue, so I only ever look at (English & Italian) translations when I'm specifically interested in the translator's interpretation of the text, which can be very enlightening. (You probably already know this example: https://t.co/cjYG58XzS3)
@AmschelKavka Happy New Year to the wonderful person who runs this account! You are single-handedly changing the definition of the word "kafkaesque" and it's long long-overdue.
@philipcball "They got caught in the trap of their own ingenuity (/ clever original ideas)." - Hannah Arendt about German intellectuals in the 1930s.
It isn't intelligence that immunizes against self-deception, but the corrective principles of science, e.g. falsifiability, predictive power.
@philipcball Not only is it an outstanding piece of literature, but it also shares some of your books subjects and characters. If you do someday find the time, it'd be lovely to read your thoughts about it.
@philipcball I'm currently reading Beyond Weird (fantastic!) as an intermediary between Cormac McCarthy's new novels. Will you be reading them, too? It'd be really interesting to get your perspective (for reasons that would qualify as spoilers).
