"FPS asks Somalia’s leaders, on behalf of that civilian population, to choose cool head over confrontation, dialogue over conflict, and the ballot over the bullets. The nation’s survival, and the lives of millions, depend on it."

Somalia at a Crossroads: Cooler Heads Carry the Day https://t.co/VRICg4rzDJ
For more than 20 hours, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has directed a sustained and indiscriminate military assault with the apparent objective of killing me, former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, dozens of respected traditional elders, and other political leaders in Mogadishu.
Heavy weaponry more commonly associated with conventional battlefield operations than densely populated urban areas, including anti-tank weapons, drones, and other military assets, has been deployed against us.
Civilian infrastructure has not been spared. Electricity supplies serving thousands of innocent civilians have been deliberately disrupted, further endangering lives and livelihoods. This conduct constitutes a war crime under international law.
These are weapons entrusted to the Somali state to fight Al-Shabaab, now turned against Somalia’s own leaders and citizens in an unprecedented campaign of political repression and targeted killing.
We will defend ourselves, our communities, and our constitutional rights.
I call upon all military, police, and security commanders to uphold their constitutional oath and refuse unlawful orders. Your duty is to the Constitution and the Somali people, not to the political interests of any individual.
Every unlawful order given and carried out will be documented. All those who commit criminal acts and war crimes will be held personally accountable.
I urge Somalia’s international partners to act immediately.
Pleased to share our new paper on Africa's #criticalminerals. It proposes a Six-Pillar framework encompassing economic diversification, environmental stewardship, inclusive development, international reciprocity, just energy transitions & peacebuilding. https://t.co/U9icYNWIxJ
My Latest Commentary: Contested Rules, Contested Legitimacy: Somalia’s Constitutional and Electoral Conundrum
Now that the FGS has concluded the constitutional review process, the key question is which constitution is legitimate—the Provisional Federal Constitution or the recently amended version—and how this development will affect the upcoming electoral process.
I answer this question in this @somalipubagenda commentary:

This is great, man.
“A fitting response to those with Somali phobia:
• The biggest mall in Dakar is owned by a Somali.
• The biggest mall in Lusaka is owned by a Somali.
• The biggest mall in Lubumbashi is owned by a Somali.
• The biggest mall in Nairobi is owned by a Somali.”

The Somali community in America is anything but “garbage”. They’re a gift, and anyone who knows them knows that. They’re relentlessly hardworking people and a blessing to this country.
Don’t let the hate filled garbage from the White House distract you from its garbage policies.
Somalia offers scholarships to Sudanese students
Somalia on Tuesday welcomed the first batch of Sudanese students who will continue their education at the Somali National University after war disrupted their studies in their own country.
Somalia offered scholarships to 24 Sudanese students, a program that will cover their education, accommodation, and living expenses.
The first group was received by the Somali Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir.
Congratulations to My friend Abdinasir saxansaxo @Macaash10 For the new role position At @SomaliPM .

Somali Resilience Conference 2025. My paper presentation and interview during this conference reinforced one core message: resilience must be nationally owned, research-driven and inclusive anchored in Somali knowledge and institutions while engaging international partners.
I’m heartbroken by what my classmate #MustafTakoy is going through. No one should lose a hard-earned opportunity just because of their passport. Talent and determination should never be held back by borders. Stay strong, Mustaf — your courage inspires many. 💔🌍

Earlier this year, 30-year-old Somali student Mustaf Mohammed Takoy was elated to receive a fully funded Erasmus Mundus scholarship to study at the University of Copenhagen. His two-year Master's in Global Environment and Development was due to begin in September but received a refusal letter from SIRI, stating that the Danish authorities do not recognise the Somali passport as a valid travel document.
