Most Projects Don’t Rate Nigerians

We are the engine of crypto adoption.

We are some of the most talented developers and hustlers in the tech space.

Yet, in the global digital economy, our passport is treated as a scarlet letter.

We supported crypto projects when they were just whitepapers.

We joined their Telegram groups, tested their dApps, and shilled them for free because we believed in the vision.

But when it’s time for them to give back, a familiar pattern emerges: the Nigerian exclusion.

It happens in two devastating ways:

1. The Airdrop Betrayal: "Thanks for the hype, but you're not eligible."

We’ve all been there.

You spend weeks interacting with a new protocol, bridging funds, swapping tokens, and generating volume for a project only to see the final airdrop eligibility criteria.

· IP Blocked. The website suddenly doesn’t work without a VPN.

· Geographic Restrictions. often added later, lists a handful of excluded countries. Nigeria is always in the top three.

· KYC Barriers. The Know-Your-Customer process magically fails to verify any Nigerian ID, or outright bans our documents.

They are happy to use our activity to inflate their metrics and lure VCs.

But when it's time to reward the early community, we are systematically filtered out.

They take our contributions and label us "high-risk." It’s not just greed; it’s a profound disrespect for our support.

2. The Remote Job Rejection: "Your skills are perfect, but your location is not."

The story repeats itself in the remote job market.

The conversation goes perfectly. The recruiter is impressed. The technical test is aced.

Then comes the inevitable question: "Where are you located?"

The moment you say "Nigeria," the tone changes.

· The enthusiasm vanishes.
· The replies get slower.
· You get the generic, "We are pausing hiring for this role" email.

They don’t say it to our faces, but the message is clear: They think we are all scammers.

They believe the stereotype, not the talent in front of them.

They see a location, not a skill set.

They fear a narrative, not the person.

They want a global team, but only from "acceptable" postcodes.

This is more than frustrating; it’s a systemic bias.

The global tech and crypto community preaches "decentralization" and "borderlessness."

But their actions are centralized on prejudice. They build walls where they promise to build bridges.

But here’s what they fail to understand: Your rejection doesn't break us; it fuels us.

We don't wait for permission to innovate. We build our own solutions.

We create our own DAOs. We found startups that solve our own problems.

We are forced to be twice as good, twice as resilient, and twice as savvy.

So, this is our message:

To the projects that exclude us from airdrops: Your token isn't a reward; it's a badge of your hypocrisy.

To the companies that reject us based on our location: You're not avoiding risk; you're missing out on some of the best, most determined talent on the planet.

We will continue to build, with or without your permission. We will continue to apply, forcing you to see our value.

We will create our own tables instead of begging for a seat at yours.

The future of tech and crypto is global. And whether you like it or not, Nigeria will be a core part of it.

Something extremely shocking happened to me on Sunday evening. I went out to celebrate Man United victory at a bar with a friend, minutes after we got to the lounge he got an emergency call and he had to leave. I stayed back vibing to the loud music while sipping my liquor.

An hour later I decided it was a wrap and opted to take a walk home since my house is just few streets away. It was already dark so I didn’t notice 3 guys walking behind me. As I tried to increase my pace, they already got a grip of me. It was just me against 3 very huge thugs and I felt helpless.

So many thoughts running through my mind at that moment on how to deal with this 3 thugs. Suddenly I noticed someone running towards us. It was Bruno Fernandes, he pulled up and assisted me.
