I'm about to do something I think I've never done before, which is assert every bit of whatever authority I have as the person who discovered and wrote down the rules of open source.

After ten years of drama and idiocy, lots of people other than me are now willing to say in public that "Codes of Conduct" have been a disaster - a kind of infectious social insanity producing lots of drama and politics and backbiting, and negative useful work.

Here is my advice about codes of conduct:

1. Refuse to have one. If your project has one, delete it. The only actual function they have is as a tool in the hands of shit-stirrers.

2. If you're stuck with having one for bureaucratic reasons, replace it with the following sentence or some close equivalent: "If you are more annoying to work with than your contributions justify, you'll be ejected."

3. Attempts to be more specific and elaborate don't work. They only provide control surfaces for shit-stirrers to manipulate.

Yes, we should try to be kind to each other. But we should be ruthless and merciless towards people who try to turn "Be kind!" into a weapon. Indulging them never ends well.

Very true. Every young man who grew up without a father figure can relate to this.

Many young men have no hope or trust in authority because everyone failed them. Nothing changed in that regard for at least 2 decades.

This is why Eminem and Marilyn Manson were so influential in my youth - they were relatable as people who were against a system that felt oppressive and meant to keep you down. Both were very liberal back then.

Now it's Jordan Peterson, Goggins, PBD with Valuetainment, and many others offering hope and knowledge. You can learn valuable things from those who successfully reached a lot of men, whether they genuinely are good souls trying to help or they do it for their self-interest. Their advantage is that they are grounded in reality. You don't need a political revolution, just knowledge and hard work, to become valuable and useful.

You can see the same in many areas on different scales, including indiedev. Those who like to play games know what fun is and maybe wish to build or stream and start doing something productive for others and find joy in the creative process. People take a chance, and if they are persistent enough, they succeed or at least gain useful skills to get a job despite not having a formal education, like in my case.

What young men need is inspiration to do better, relevant to their interests, and a chance to acquire knowledge and learn discipline. Someone to root for them and help them get up if they fall while they take a chance in life. If you wish to count on them, name-calling and demonization for their hobbies pushes them further away.

If you're a young man struggling to find his place, focus on yourself and pick a dream - any dream is good enough to get you moving forward. Build your skills with free knowledge on the web and experimentation. Develop discipline to push things till the end no matter what. You have more time than you think to make your mark, and failures are valuable lessons. Accomplish something with hard work, ignore the noisy attention seekers who want to put you down, and elevate those behind you.

It's funny how Godot going woke is just an innocent joke tweet, pre-emptive blocks deserved, and calling Redot team white supremacists a non-issue.

But when people under the guise of LGBTQ stir problems, you have to tip-toe around their bullshit for a week, after which they run a mass smear campaign over just 2 bans for the worst offenders.

Even if you prove everything was justified and it was an organized attack, you still deserve all the hate in the world and to be canceled.

The more I see and talk to people who are willing, the more I'm convinced that those with rainbow flags and pronouns are in a fanatical cult with no moral code or leadership. And a lot of people fear them.

Nobody in the group questions anything, no reflection after huge mistakes, the final justification of "the other side is worse", and you can't criticize ideas or symbols because they are part of the personality, which means everyone takes everything personally.

Everyone attacks at the mere sight of trigger words like bigot or nazi. There is no accountability for anything because of support in their closed community.

The only thing that matters is forced acceptance of what the group believes is true. Any means, any response, even if vastly overblown, is justified to achieve that goal.

A company that "gets" its customers: Cloudflare offers functionality to block AI crawlers, which give zero value to any site (in fact, take away value: the more they crawl, the less traffic the site will later get!) They also consume resources (bandwidth, CPU, etc.)
