Builders need funding to sustain themselves and focus on building. Dumping tokens on retail too early often sets the wrong tone.

It’s better for retail investors to participate after the project reaches Product-Market Fit (PMF) and demonstrates sustainable growth—so their investment is tied to real value.

VCs play a critical role in seeding builders, but hyping coins with massive rounds aimed at trapping retail is counterproductive. Founders need to strike a delicate balance: raise enough capital to sustain themselves and build value first, then transfer that value to the community at the right time, when PMF is achieved and growth accelerates, giving early adopters a meaningful entry.

Calling out VCs isn’t the solution—builders need them to provide early capital to build in peace. At the same time, dumping tokens prematurely doesn’t work either, because it distracts builders from achieving PMF while also trying to sustain themselves.

Funding models like @MetaDAOProject illustrate the challenge: teams are paid a fixed salary, but most tokens go to early retail “degenerates” rather than long-term holders, making it hard to secure long-term capital for the project.

The funding ecosystem needs to mature—but it’s a complex problem, and no single party is to blame. This is tough, and it requires thoughtful approaches from builders, VCs, and communities alike.
